Psych profile of the Brinkmann Nyquist One…
- Tonally neutral across the bandwidth.
- A very deep and structured bass range that's assertive where needed but without emphasis. First-class definition equally benefits acoustic instruments and electronica.
- The midrange and treble frequencies too are of very high-resolution as one would expect from a device of this calibre. Beats, resonances, subtle details, reverberation, tonal textures and colours all reproduce with exceptional accuracy.
- Dynamically liberated but unhyped, with the guts to embrace real intensity where required but never artificially forced. It doesn't try to impress with extra bass for purely dynamic effect but achieves this through speed and timing regardless of frequency, whether in brass sections or bass drum attacks.
- Remarkably good depth of field, normal width. Highly variable staging means that where the virtual stage starts and how expansive or compact it appears depends primarily on the recording. The Brinkmann camera doesn't have a fixed zoom nor does it always render close up. It rather adapts to the recorded situation.
- A very calm black background against which even the faintest signal stands out to form the basis for sharp and three-dimensional rendering of individual sounds. A strong 3D effect.
- Perfect build quality as one would expect in this class. Streaming via Roon sounded superb. The modular concept ensures greater investment security as update capability is guaranteed.
