Srajan, on Steve's site there is a Jules Coleman review of a Pure Audio open baffle. He claims that it avoids the usual "cancellation problem" despite following the "figure 8" dispersion pattern of dipoles. I don't understand what he means by a separate cancellation problem and how this speaker solves it. Thx, Roland
You'll need to ask Jules about his intended meaning. The fact that this speaker's single woofer is a 15" type suggests bog-standard dipole bass cancellation or otherwise they could have used a smaller bass driver. I'm utterly ignorant how claimed tweaks to that driver alone would counteract the dispersion's acoustic short circuit. Reading through Jules' brief listening comments past his far lengthier philosophical intro, I found nothing about subjective bass extension. Again, you'll have to ask him yourself. I haven't a clue what cancellation problem this speaker solves or does different than classic dynamic dipoles. Without learning more, I'm as unsure as you seem to be. A dipole figure-8's lateral cancellation doesn't imply no bass, just the need to compensate with bigger woofers. At least that's been true for those I've reviewed thus far. Srajan
