Psych profile for the Scansonic Q3…
- sounds much larger than it looks and can fill comparatively large rooms with bass. Just don't expect extreme party levels.
- plays bass appropriately low for the size to serve up plenty of flavour, elasticity and springiness. What fun. It interprets low-frequency impulses from a bass drum, timpani etc. a little softer and smoother so with an emphasis on body over impulse. The higher the SPL, the more bass structures soften.
- pleases with its juicy earthy lower midrange which gives way to a minimally reserved central range before it becomes more linear again towards the presence region. This small trick presents the vocal range properly grounded yet simultaneously transparent.
- holds back a little when it comes to image density or pigment to go more pastel than oil colour.
- has a very refined almost inconspicuous just never subdued treble which eschews the minor fizziness of some ribbons or planars to set natural resolution standards in this class. The fact that Scansonic don't exploit the tweeter's capabilities more blatantly is a credit to their designers.
- creates a very wide space that starts at or slightly in front of the baffles. It rarely goes far back.
- represents what happens on the periphery of the stage very clearly and cleanly. Only a few loudspeakers do this as convincingly.
- represents images especially vocals a little larger but appropriately sharp and 3D. In addition the tightly woven soundscape that envelops the listener at times is enchanting to sink into as though in a luxuriously sprung bed.
- slightly restrained on macro impulses.
- can claim truly exceptional status for fine dynamic gradations and micro transients which well eclipse the typical level of this class.
- well made and stunningly good looking.
