The Cultural Village in Shenzen has elements of Disney World in being a theme park of sorts. What the city has done is erect, on a very sizable estate surrounded by high rise building and major traffic arteries, an overview of major Chinese crafts and historical sites -- both architectural and natural -- in outdoor miniatures. There are also full-scale replicas of traditional farm houses and temples to walk into. It's a veritable crash course in Chinese history which despite its commercial aspect serves to convey a startled grasp of just the magnitude this vast country and its past span.
