Whether we played the EL84-based Trafomatic monoblocs or the Hypex Ncore 1200-based monos, low bass became more present without any hints of fat or boom. Sometimes the lower midrange and just above as the range from around 250Hz to 1kHz can get boxy or nasal. This rids the sound of life when there’s too much energy released. With the SP#777 this band was full of spirit. In the so-called presence region as the transition from the upper midrange to the lower treble, the SP#777 stayed away from harshness and brightness to keep the fed data nicely balanced. At the very top of the spectrum where airiness is generated, the cable offered a nice compromise between the sharing of details and getting strident. The terms balance and control best cover this cable’s qualities.
We played a wide variety of music during the evaluation period. From the most simple solo flamenco guitar to the most complex classical music with all members of the orchestra present plus a large choir, the SP#777 not only proved ready for the task but was in full control.
As Hayashi-san notes in the product information, cable dressing is important. In our case the best results for the most balanced behaviour were achieved when the individual runs were kept 3 cm apart from each other. Wooden blocks with recesses like those by Level Audio would make such dressing even easier.
With the SP#777 Great, Nanotec have written another chapter in their book. Again for a very realistic price we now have a loudspeaker cable to market which offers a very balanced and controlled means of transporting an audio signal from amplifier to speakers. The clever usage of colloidal gold and silver particles keeps down the cost of exotic conductor materials. Applying smart geometry for the 49 stranded wires insures proper resistive and inductive behaviour as does the choice of dielectric.
That the cable’s outer sheath is violet must be a wink at the sevens in the name. The first seven is standard for all Nanotec SP cables. Then 77 stands for the seven clusters of seven wires whilst violet is the seventh colour of the rainbow. And of course seven is a lucky number for many, even more a triple version of 777 applied to an audio system.
Condition of component received: Excellent. Reusability of packing: Japanese folding art makes an often reusable simple box. Website comments: English is not the company’s forte but all information is available with a little effort . Completeness of delivery: All we needed. Pricing: Unbeatable. Human interactions: Very kind and prompt. Remarks: When ordering SP#777 cables note that two lengths of cable are needed per channel. Covering 2 meters left and right you’ll need 8 meters when DIY’ing.
