The new speaker cable is of the dual-lead type and thus uses separate cables for the hot and return per stereo pair. Under the violet 6.5mm Ø PVC sheath sit 7 strands individually isolated in transparent PE. Together these 7 strands are wrapped in a conductive PVC dress. Each of the 7 strands consist of seven 0.32mm Ø wires. The center wire is 99.9999% OFC whilst the surrounding 6 wires are high-grade OFC. In total 49 conductors add up to 3.9408mm², roughly 11 gauge. But Nanotec would not be Nanotec if these conductors weren’t all soaked in their signature colloidal liquid. Hayashi-san disclosed that for the SP#777 they chose a regular-density liquid consisting of 95% gold particles and 5% silver nano particles though the raw amount of liquid is higher here than with their other cables.

We received the SP#777 Great from Japan terminated at our request with Furutech FB 200 plugs. These would accommodate the high mounting of the fragile Eichmann Cable Pods on our Arcadian Audio Pnoe hornspeakers. These Aussie cable pods tend to break off when there’s too much force hanging on 'em. It renders this high cable access point vulnerable to torque and weight. Fortunately the SP#777 was light enough. Some 20cm from the terminating plugs, Nanotec had attached a plastic cable separator which links the two phase runs together whilst maintaining separating space between them. That’s because with dual run cables there is a chance that when they separate too far apart, the assembly becomes an antenna especially in a RF-flooded environment. A counter measure then can be to twist both runs together.

To set a personal base line we first listened to our analog sources using the SP#79 Special + SP#79 SR combination as speaker cable and later digital sources. Once the sound was set in our minds, we swapped the red and black cables for the new violet. From the first tone on it was clear that the triple seven put the Special/SR combination in its shadow. And at quite a distance. In the tonality department there wasn’t much difference but where airiness was concerned, the violet cable offered a far freer image from the loudspeakers to suspend the aural scenery in the room.
