Hi Srajan, I've been enjoying your deep dives into digital audio architectures and wanted to share an observation that might interest you for future coverage. It seems to me that an overlooked opportunity in the high-end streaming sector is for streaming companies to incorporate dedicated network switching within their own product catalogues. Beyond the usual focus on servers and players, a purpose-designed switch engineered to stay within the same ecosystem can do a lot to keep the digital signal path cleaner and better shielded from noise pollution introduced by generic or even putative high-end network gear.

A prime example is the Lumin L2: on the surface, it's marketed primarily as a library/server but it also integrates a high-quality network switch with two RJ45 and two fibre-optic ports. This allows a Lumin streamer to benefit from direct but isolated connectivity that stays 'in-house' rather than passing through a noisy consumer router or off-the-shelf switch. It's a subtle but elegant approach to control signal integrity from storage to playback though I have also found it advantageous with streaming music services. Given how much effort goes into precision clocks and low-noise power supplies elsewhere in digital front ends, it's surprising that more manufacturers haven't addressed this weak link more systematically. Perhaps this could make for an interesting angle in a future piece — examining whether true ecosystem-level network switching might be the next frontier in digital playback refinement. Michael
