Not only technically but sonically La Rosita’s Maverick Mk2 is different and clearly enriches its price range of amplifier options. In the outer bands the amp is very disciplined and avoids any excess. Consequently it seems a bit narrower of bandwidth than competitors. On color saturation too others reach a bit deeper in the till. The French meanwhile gets heavy on dynamics and phenomenal magnification power. Here it moves well beyond the mainstream. For many musical pieces, it thus opens its own avenue of approach.

• Tonally balanced, I heard no hot spots or recesses. Even so the frequency extremes seemed a bit more defensive. Particularly bass performance reacts strongly to speaker interactions. Here it seems smart to ascertain that the Maverick behaves well with your existing or desired boxes.
• Low tones have great body with high control and bounce. In the very abyss the amp gives up some pressurization but compensates with wonderful dynamics. For the bass, quality trumps quantity.
• The midband impresses with strong resolution and brilliant microdynamics. No nuance is overlooked though full saturation of tone colour isn’t a strength.
• Nothing but the truth is the motto for the treble. This translates into awesome detail with high control which doesn’t ‘produce’ any air unless recorded.
