It may seem that I began at the end and with the conclusion without giving any blow-by-blow descriptions and analysis and that would be an error. But I think that in hi-end products, these conclusive matters are the most important. They are the result of individual aspects and I will call upon those. For the Tara the incredibly full midrange is the most important. It is not highlighted in bold like with the Zero interconnect but the result of showing the sound with a soft belly, the transition between midrange and bass, which allows for creating such perfectly credible virtual sources. This is also related to the incredible spaciousness of the cable. It is not as spectacular in this regard as the Acrolink because it does not extend as far to the sides nor does it suggest as vast a space behind the listener but it better defines everything in front of us. This definition arises not from hardening the mid-band attacks which is how the Velum works.

Here the definition derives from the three-dimensionality and fullness of the virtual sources. This is what makes them solid elements of the soundstage and not something we merely stumble over. The top range seems a bit smoothed over but probably only seems that way due to the incredibly saturated midrange. Fortifying any part of the sound spectrum automatically renders the surroundings weaker to our perception. The Omega does not highlight a thing but compared to it, most other cables underline detail without its saturation to make them seem brighter. Only the Harmonix Exquisite had a similar timbre and perhaps a similar sonic philosophy. The Tara’s bass too is wonderfully saturated and beautifully, naturally soft. This is how everything sounds in real life. The Velum can go lower and has better attack definition to be highly attractive but does not sound as natural. The bass of the Omega shines in shades and colors and is very differentiated in dynamics. With the Velum and other cables, the information is sometimes stretched as though pulled apart by force. With the Tara everything flows without constrictions.

I obtained interesting effects when the Omega Onyx speaker cable was combined with the Zero interconnect. The Tara interconnect has a stronger character than the Omega. The emphasis is on the midrange that everybody dreams about. I think that we do dream about such sounds when asleep. This does not mean that it is a neutral sound because it is after all modeled to be liked. But it is a master in that area. I never heard anything like it. Still, this clear character of sound—warm, vivid, with priority on the midrange—dominates when paired with the Omega.

The latter is far more even and a foundation we can build many combinations upon while being sure that everything we hear comes from the other constituents and not the speaker cable itself. This ability to differentiate everything placed ahead of it makes the Omega Onyx a powerful tool for pleasure and work – speaking for myself. With the Zero we get a complete sound, perfect within its presumptions and one "for life". But it will be a definable sound with clear accents that will impose itself on each recording played. It is a perfect solution for anyone who wants relief and to seek no farther. On its own, the Omega Onyxyes, this is the most balanced cable I knowbrought about the biggest change in my system for the better.

This is why I bought the review loaner. Madness as cables should not cost that much but:

• this is the best cable I heard in my life;
• it is obviously much better than other loudspeaker cables costing up to 60 000zl I heard;
• and my system is not the same without it. This is a difficult case. I had to make installment payments for a long long time but that’s life. Anyway, I am worth it…

Description: The Omega Onyx from Tara Labs consists of two separate and very thick runs. The conductors themselves are quite thin and the main role in this construction is played by isolation and vibration damping materials as well as the cable’s general geometry. The conductors are made from SA-OF8N copper.

Each channel has 168 x rectangular solid-core RSC Gen2 conductors of square cross section insulated by Aero-PE GMI dielectric. Each conductor is placed within its own sheath quite larger than itself to be mostly surrounded by air, the best dielectric shy of a vacuum. The terminations are very solid parts made from gold-plated copper to which the desired and interchangeable threaded ends are screwed – spades, bananas or rings.
