These speakers do it deliberately different. The retro look's rustic charm of virtual PA weaponry and marketing's insistent loudness focus could set up wrong impressions of simplistic plywood cabs with stapled vinyl wrap and little to offer past going full tilt. Already the unfiltered midband prevents that. Just so Vestlyd clearly aim at an audience that enjoys going on the acoustic offensive including higher levels. For them the V12c offers compelling entertainment with echoes of the live experience. High pressurization can certainly kick off – er, animated discussions with one's neighbors. I simply didn't view it as any cheap beefcake tricks, just means for maximal enjoyment. These aren't bean counters of extreme resolution who track the quietest sounds like bloodhounds on the scent. Chamber-music fiends from the audiophile gentility will thus look elsewhere. Horses for courses. On this course, our German market just gained a terrific new option of excellent price/performance ratio that speaks to Rockers, Blues women, Metalheads and groove gyrators who are ready to rumble.
Psych profile for the Weslyd V12c…
♦ bass of great physicality, tautness and extreme 'speed'. It's not about max descent where many monitors dig deeper but off-the-leash pressure and punch.
♦ after a nasal period during run-in, the midrange is very unfiltered without tipping into the unduly cool or stark.
♦ the waveguided tweeter offers good lateral dispersion, is slightly soft at the very top so less airy without seeming unduly opaque. Freedom from hardness benefits long listening sessions.
♦ this price range knows competition with more detail resolution. While this coaxial system generates good insight into recorded structure, it's no magnification hound that serves up micro detail on a silver platter.
♦ middle-of-the-road soundstaging is neither too compact nor artificially bloated. Image specificity is excellent and relative distances between virtual performers are very believable. The general stage perspective is slightly forward without getting too intimate.
♦ the 'live louder' slogan does correctly capture the extreme headroom on tap and quiet/loud voltage swings track without fail for truly brilliant dynamic range.
♦ even room and lower levels don't collapse so audible bandwidth remains stable at the usual proportions relative to SPL.
