Another drawback may be the lack of a headphone jack especially since there's no bi-directional Bluetooth to compensate. Friends of imaging where impeccable precision can't come at the expense of silkiness so long-term pleasure and who accept a slightly warm tonality in case of doubt meanwhile are the core target group of the Eversolo DMP-A8. And here it doesn't matter whether you use its streaming or preamp functionality. In this price range I don't know of a more audiophile universalist with more universal sophistication. If you want more in terms of sound, you must either reach noticeably deeper into your wallet; or do with far less versatility. Therefore I highly recommend a personal audition if this review tickled your interest. In my listening room, the Eversolo DMP-A8 will now serve as a personal reference going forward so you'll meet it again in my upcoming reviews.
The AKM DACs in the Eversolo DMP-A8
The psych profile for the Eversolo DMP-A8…
- a very successful high-frequency reproduction which combines long-term effortlessness and impeccable precision and transparency.
- a pleasantly organic, agile, easily intelligible midrange with a pleasant touch of warmth that never crosses into tonal irregularities.
- a nicely deep bass range weighted on the minimally plus side. Although there are even more accentuated tighter network players, I found the DMP-A8 to be properly precise at the bottom.
- exemplary location-sharp imaging right up to the stage edges where the depth domain in particular stood positively apart from the competition but here the chosen filter settings also had a say.
- lively macrodynamics where once more the Eversolo DMP-A8 played it more beautifully gripping than academically restrained. Microdynamics weren't emphatically wiry or strikingly shimmering but still accurate.
- a sophisticated operating concept that can be controlled via app or touchscreen. Despite its many layers, navigation was intuitive and logical. Great featurization of streamer, DAC and preamplifier meets all audiophile demands and here the analogue volume control implemented by R2R ladder deserves a special shout-out.
