Phono: total vitality. The phono module more than kept up and in fact delivered extra crack and air which—countering the analog-equals-warmth myth—gave analog the edge over digital on crispness. While THD might have been a tad higher than with data coming in over the Solo streamer, I found vinyl off my robust Ortofon 2M Red cartridge great listening fun. The Danish Fenris surprised with bass that for its size cheated less than normal; and with clever tuning for its intended applications so relatively close to the wall in small to medium rooms. Particularly in the nearfield so desktop included, these small canines really ticked off boxes. Resolution on part with the bigger Forte siblings was an extra bonus. Another highlight was detailed treble clarity.

From the upper midband's presence region into the lower treble, Argon's Fenris A4 exhibited a bit of forwardness. That benefitted transient speed, general impulsiveness and vocal intelligibility. Any real cost cutting measures compared to costlier competition including other Argons only applied to finish quality. But if you don't mind budget vinyl skins and the recommended setups fit your profile, this is a real find; and one that adds a terrific phono module into the bargain.
