No structure claiming proper castlehood can do so without heraldic emblems. Greifensee has its fair share prominently displayed on the ground floor where Digital Sources had set up shop.

Though Andreas Kolbe exhibited with T&A's Caruso media center leashed to the CM Active 2-way bass reflex monitors, he was quick to explain that their storage back ends make up server solutions from Linn to Sooloos. The AVA Media RipServer 3 [upper right] runs Intel's 64-bit Atom 230 processor with 2GB of RAM, a Sony slot drive and two WD Green Power hard disks. The operating system is Windows Home Server, the UPnP server is Tversity and SqueezeCenter and Firefly runs the iTunes server. 2 x 500GB of storage will run you €899 and 2 x 1TB comes to €1.149. Meta data are supplied by GD3 and run through a built-in editor [photo links are active].

The Network Sound Isolator is a small USB-to-Ethernet interface claimed to provide complete galvanic isolation for improved sonics and weighs in at €149. The AVA MediaServer below is a 5-slot hard-drive box which also runs Windows Home Server as the automated back-up mirror program. This is claimed to be an improvement over similar RAID arrays.

On the other side of the ground floor next to the cash register sat two Vita Audio machines.

Their R4 is an 80-watt all-in-one media center with integrated active subwoofer, a CD/MP3/WMA slot, USB input, DAB and FM tuner with RDS, integrated iPod Doc, two aux inputs, "enhanced 3D sound", tone controls, headphone socket, clock and alarm function and Walnut veneer or gloss white lacquer finish.

Clearly, 'convergence' was on the minds of these exhibitors, hence the choice of PC-based streaming sources in many rooms.
