"Naturally, dealers are clamoring already for a replacement floorstanding model in the space vacated by the Ref 3.1 and I have some ideas. Believe it or not but CES 2009 was our best Las Vegas show ever. I'm very excited about our new technology and future applications for it." Sharing Anthony's excitement from prior ownership of his 3.1s, I've requested review samples of the new models when available. This is merely the beginning of this story*...

_______________
* It's already confirmed that any 3.0 or 3.1 in the field can become a full-blown 3.5. It will involve two new filter circuits (inductor, metalized polypropylene capacitor, luxo bypass cap); four outrigger bases; two woofers; four carbon-fiber spheres with machined bezels; two Gen 3 CDT tweeters; and on early models with the tweeter toggle, two new back panels. Gallo Acoustics is presently working out logistics for non-US customers. US customers will make appointments with the California headquarters and return their speakers for a short spa vacation. Conversion costs will be the actual difference in price between old and new model. Shipping details are still being worked out. Naturally, no such modifications will be available until the new Reference 3.5 begins to actually ship in the 3rd or 4th quarter of 2009.

Anthony is also working on a 'cage' for those who prefer the entire hi-tech enclosure - um, enclosed. It will be more curvaceous than the original but optional and for a surcharge since the Ref 3.5's front-firing midranges and tweeter already benefit from non-removable stainless steel grills. "Unlike with those drivers, an equivalent permanent grill on the woofer actually compromises performance a bit so I opted against putting one there. Being sidefiring, I doubt most people would complain. Those who do have the complete 'black-out' option of the cloth cover."
