Internal tour. To call the mINT's compact real estate built up is near understatement. The two small ICEpower boards completely take up the ground floor side by side.

The first floor is occupied by the analog preamp/input buffer board. The smallest top floor is the digital input board. The optical encoder and input selector board sits inside the chassis assembly that makes up the front, top and sides.

Here we see the exposed portion of the analog board which otherwise is obscured by the shorter digital board.

Here is where the digital signal coming in on Toslink, coax or USB gets received and processed.

The optical encoder/attenuator and input selector assembly mount vertically right behind the fascia.

Imagine my great personal delight when the mINT's foot print turned out to be the perfect match for my HP2710 computer screen's footer. The inner law & order sergeant smiled. Less clutter on the desktop makes the old fart happy.

EJ's remote control for standby, input, volume and mute is a plastic wand the size of a thick thumb and about as tall as three thumbs. Each short press advances or reduces the volume in a nicely small consistent step. Holding the same button down creates a continuous motion. The light ring around the power button goes green for standby, blue for on. Chosen input and volume setting remain unchanged during power down/up cycles. An input selector LED turns blue when that source goes live as does the hard mute button. Blue too is the color of choice for the wand's small light confirming whenever a command has been sent. Connecting the USB input to my HP workstation automatically configured itself and testing the connection with a CNN news feed was instant joy. But I still had to download the proper Windows driver to enjoy asynchronous data transfer.

Here we see the mINT as sleek monitor screen base. Because of its sculpted geometry—taller side rails with lower cover in-between—a finger-thick gap remains above the cover vents to not block the air exchange.
