With the power cords I found ideal synergy with the Gran Corona feeding my Audiomat amp directly whilst another Gran Corona fed my BPT power strip which in turn supplied electrons to my source gear; Petit Corona to Audiomat DAC and Robusto to everything else. Not only did I note awesome bass weight and depth but also articulation and oodles of musical detail minus any overhang or bloat, which in the past I noted with pretty much any power cord built around large conductors and especially multiple layers of shielding. The Gran/Petit Corona give you all that wonderful bass depth and dynamic power kick to the solar plexus without the slightly rose-tinted effect of the Robusto. To my ears both Coronas are superior in every way to the Robusto.

Essentially you get to have your cake and eat it too. The Robusto remains a superbly musical power cord that will suit some systems and tastes more than others. Sticking a single Robusto on a source such as a transport or turntable power supply induces a serious shot of testosterone and reduced noise to levels that have to be experienced to be appreciated.

The Panatela cables on the other hand complemented my system in a whole other fashion. To my ears the power cords poured the foundation for the music whilst the signal cables built upon it the walls, floor and roof as it were. Think nuance, minute musical and ambient cues, artistic intent, greater insight into recordings and their meaning, the little subtle things that differentiate the technique and interpretive styles of for example Isabelle Faust from James Ehnes in their respective Bach Solo Violin & Partita recordings. Awesome musicians both but completely different which I could more easily appreciate than with lesser cables which tend to homogenize such things.

To recap, the Robusto power cable that started it all is a rich full-bodied darker warmer cable with excellent scale and dynamics that deviates slightly from neutrality whereas the Gran Corona and to a lesser degree the Petit Corona ably stride that narrow line of neutrality without giving up any dynamic punch and visceral potency of the Robusto. The Panatela cable loom strikes a near ideal balance of detail, musical textures, nuance, dynamics and dimensionality without a trace of shininess or metallic aftertaste. The Panatela loom displayed a natural balanced musical flow minus treble edginess or transient smearing. It was suave, sophisticated and had an engaging way with tempo and forward flow and momentum. It was also the bee’s knees with inner detail and ambient detail retrieval. If you’re a detail hound, you’ll love the Panatelas.

When I can hear differences between recordings not just in how they sound- i.e. bass, treble, soundstaging-but by how well I can observe nuances and note decays, the space and separation between performers, their skill or lack thereof and artistic choices that differentiate one recording from another, in other words a lack of homogenization or sameness…then I have found an exceptional component.
