And whilst I wasn't disappointed—that did seem unlikely—I was actually quite surprised. Building upon proven ingredients of prior Quantum incarnations, Magnat here has placed a very balanced and compellingly fresh box on four spikes. The sonic fingerprint has shifted slightly into the brisk and sparkling without downplaying emotional conviction or that popping punchiness which seems to have been genetically coded into this whole range from the very beginning.

As a result the Quantum 755 feels more fleetfooted, agile and transparent than either the discontinued 905 or its direct 705 precursor which particularly in the mids was bigger and warmer. Competitors like a Phonar Veritas P4, Wharfedale Jade 5 or older B&W 683 will manage a few steps deeper into the bassment but also engage the risk of triggering room modes which can cause unpleasant boom. The Quantum 755 sidesteps that prospect to remain very tolerant of average living rooms including small ones.

Psych profile...

• makes less low bass than cabinet size would predict. This is more than made up for with precision, structure and punch. The advantage of this voicing is near complete absence of room-mode activation to also suit smaller rooms.
• imbues the midrange with jumpy liveliness and cracking freshness. Voices and acoustic instruments aren't warmed up to seem innately lean. This impression is reinforced by the open energetic personality.
• the treble is open, detailed and finely resolved without getting analytical or glassy.
• casts a particularly deep soundstage. Sans toe-in this generates a quasi concert-hall vibe with quite three-dimensional focus and excellent decorrelation of sound from sound sources.
• is musically flowing and coherent. The presentation is always holistic and proportionate rather than separated out into leaves.
• impresses by coming on fully already at low volumes.
