The soundstage itself lacked for nothing and was wide open as well as nicely separated from the speakers. As one expects from quality transducers, the virtual stage appeared between them for a seamless illusion but a poster child of strict sorting it was not. About that infamous focus lock whereby individual performers freeze-frame with such exactitude as to appear touchable... well, Gamut's Phi5 isn't completely obsessed. |

Conclusion If you fancy a lively, rhythmically dry and highly transparent sonic picture, Gamut's Phi5 belongs but isn't so consumed with transients as to forget equal attention on the sustain. While always a matter of taste and room, I'd recommend an audition pairing with electronics leaning toward the weighty and fat in the bass rather than asceticism. And don't hire the Gamut Phi5 for near-field affairs. Its general profile prefers about 3 meters of listener distance. Given those qualifiers, nothing should prevent a highly involving listening session. |
